A Message from our Principal

Dear ELE Families,

As you are likely aware, CMS students in grades K-5 will continue remote learning through February 12.

I have received many emails from parents over the past week.  I know that many families did not support returning to in-person rotations with community spread at high levels, and many feel that we should be offering in-person instruction with safety protocols in place.  I stand by my commitment to focus on leading our staff in implementing the decisions made by our district leaders.  I do not advocate for either side of the debate, and instead focus on continuous improvement.

Focusing our efforts on teaching, learning, and student engagement is the best way for our staff to continue rising to this challenge.  We understand and share the frustration and disappointment in what our children are missing, and will continue listening and learning from your feedback

Information about the remote learning period and a family feedback survey are included below.

Reporting Positive COVID Cases:

-Positive COVID cases for staff and students who will attend in person during second semester should still be reported during the remote learning period.

-Families are asked to report a positive COVID diagnosis for any student who is assigned to in-person learning by emailing

-This information informs the CMS Data Dashboard, and reporting is confidential.

Student Materials and Support:

-We will host a drive through materials pick up after our teams determine what students will need for upcoming lessons.  Details will be shared early next week.

-Library books may be returned to the ELE sidewalk between 7:30 AM – 2 PM on school days.

-Library book reservations and pick up service will continue to be offered according to the remote schedule.

-Technology support is available through the request form that can be found on the ELE webpage.

-Families and students may request support from a school counselor for any social, emotional or academic concerns.  Students may message their counselor through Canvas or email.  Families may request through email or by using the Counseling Support Request Form on the ELE webpage.

-Virtual clubs will continue to be offered during the remote learning period.

Finally, please know that the ELE Staff Family recognizes that these circumstances are not ideal (feel free to insert stronger language).  There is no improvement, tool, or strategy that we can provide that will make this a “normal” school experience.  We also know that your children depend on us to keep trying by providing consistency and modelling resilience.  We ALL want this to be behind us, and we have never been closer to the end that we are right now.

PTA President’s Points

Happy Friday Hawks!

I hope all of you have had a wonderful week! I feel like we are getting back into the groove at my house, which I guess is good since this schedule will continue for a while longer!  As I’m sure everyone knows, the return to in person learning has been delayed until February 15th. Let’s do all we can to make good choices about our comings and goings to make this a reality! Hang in there everyone! Thank you to our staff and teachers for making our virtual experience the best around, we are so fortunate to have such fabulous planners for our students!

Thank you to all who participated in our General Meeting Monday night. Our revised budget was unanimously approved, meaning we can move forward with supporting ELE in the best ways possible! It was also nice to hear updates from our committee coordinators; while some have unfortunately not been able to share their gifts and talents with us as planned, the “doing” spirit and love for ELE is not waning! Because we are not currently planning to have any of our normal spring activities and events, we will forgo meeting in March unless plans change. We will meet in May as we wrap up this year and confirm the Board for next year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and remembers to observe our holiday on Monday in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
