Board’s Bulletin – AFO Update

$36,682! This is the total that we have as of right now for the All for One Fund. This is from your donations and corporate matches combined! We still have to add up the change from the students this week and donations continue to come in, so our total will obviously grow. I am so excited to report on final numbers next week. Also, the winners of the Change Wars this year will be able to spray Silly String on Mrs. Lail and Mrs. Stewart!

You might be wondering what we will be doing with all of this money. This year, your donations will go towards picnic tables and flexible seating arrangements for the students. Teachers will also be able to be reimbursed for classroom materials that they purchased. I happened to work both in the corporate world as an accountant and then I made a career change to teaching. As an accountant, any time I needed supplies, I walked into a massive supply closet and just took what I needed without giving it too much thought. If someone had an issue with a computer, it was promptly replaced. New computer programs were bought and updated all of the time. But as a teacher, it was and still is the complete opposite. I gave a whole lot more thought into supplies that I would need for projects because they came from me and I felt awkward asking parents for help. If there was something wrong with my computer, I would just have to deal with it. Eventually, when my computer was replaced, the old, very slow one, was passed down to my students. Any specialized computer programs had to be purchased by myself, or a group of teachers, and if we were lucky, the school. I can not speak on behalf of the teachers at ELE, but I am willing to bet that they truly appreciate being reimbursed for their costs.

But, enough about me. Thank you to the families that donated to the All for One Fund this week:

Snack Donations Needed

ELE Family: We need your help. The ELE school counseling team keeps a small emergency stash of non-perishable snacks in case a student forgets or is unable to bring a snack from home.  Our stash is nearly empty, and we would love to continue to provide this as a “just-in-case” option if a child is hungry.  If you would like to donate snacks, please drop them off in the bins in the front lobby.

Thank you!

Jessica Ott, School Counselor

November is Picture Book Month

November is National Picture Book Month! We will celebrate our love of picture books all month in the ELE Media Center.

1. Please visit The Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library and use your child’s CMS Student ID# to check out picture books (or any books). Have a ‘Family Reading Night’!

2. Students are invited to check out extra picture books from the ELE Media Center.  Kindergarteners may check out up to 2 picture books; 1st/2nd graders-up to 3 picture books and 3rd-5th graders-up to 4 picture books.  Students are encouraged to read to/with someone at home.  Please return books as you finish them so other readers may enjoy them too.

3. Book Character Day is on Tuesday, November 23rd. Staff and students are invited to dress up as their favorite book character. The characters may be from a picture book OR chapter book. Be sure your child knows their character’s name and the title of the book!

Don’t Forget! Check Lost & Found online
